Furry Angel Tree 2014

The holidays have always been a time of giving to those who are less fortunate. There are thousands of companion animals who have been abandoned or relinquished to rescue organizations that struggle to provide basic services for them.  Pet lovers look for ways they can help, but the need is so great, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what is needed.

The Animal Hospital of Statesville is sponsoring our fifth annual Furry Angel Tree to benefit local animal rescue organizations with which we are closely associated. These organizations include the Humane Society of Iredell County, the Iredell County Animal Shelter, and Forever Home Canine Rescue, The Duffy & Katie Fund, Paws & Claws Feline Rescue, and Earth Angels Stray Cat Rescue.

The Wish List is available with the different rescue organizations’ names and their needs. You can access the needs list in the NOTES section of our Facebook page, going to our website to the Events tab , OR you can come by AHS to pick up a copy. Purchase the item or items noted on the list, and bring the purchased items back to the Furry Angel Tree in the lobby of the Animal Hospital of Statesville by 5:00 pm on December 22 . Representatives of the Animal Hospital of Statesville will then contact the participating rescue organizations to come and pick up their donated items in time for Christmas.

These organizations do so much year round to help out pets in need. It costs a lot of money to run these rescues. Pet lovers now have a way to help abandoned animals at this special time of year.

Come pick up the needs list today. Then watch as gifts for pets in need pile up under our Furry Angel Tree!

Our hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday:  7 am to 7 pm
Wednesday and Friday:  7 am to 6 pm
Saturday:  8 am to 1 pm

We appreciate the generosity of our local pet lovers!

Davis Animal Hospital in Statesville also has an Angel Tree for Paws & Claws Feline Rescue.

Two Gorgeous Seniors Need Your Help Soon!

These two beautiful senior kitties need your help!

Joy writes,
"My husband and I have been separated for several years.  When I left, I wasn't able to take all of my kitties with me. The 2 that are still with my husband are at least 13 years old. Thirteen years ago, they were put out in front of our house and simply walked up to our front door. I fell in love with them right then. They were adults at that time. So I'm not absolutely sure how old they are - but at least 13 years old. Bennie is the big black and white baby, and Cutie is the calico.

There have been some changes in circumstances, and my husband is no longer willing to keep them. I am living in a townhome development where I can only have 2 pets.  I've fostered dogs and have gotten into trouble with my HOA - even if the foster is only for a week or so. I'm afraid that if I bring Bennie and Cutie home with me, the HOA will demand that I get rid of them.  So, I'm trying to do something before things come to a head and while I have time to hopefully find them a good home. I won't let them go to the pound and will figure out something one way or another.

They are very bonded and would need to stay together. I'll make sure that they have their shots before they go to another home. Both are fixed. Bennie is pretty big - about 15-18 pounds.  Cutie is just a tiny thing - no more than 8-10 pounds. Both have the tuffs of fur between their toes and pads.

My husband doesn't want them around anymore and will take them to the pound if I don't do something soon. These are the sweetest cats you'd ever meet. Bennie is really humble and doesn't ask much more than something to eat, a patch of sunshine and some petting. Cutie is still a feisty little thing and likes some petting - but prefers to sit with/next you. John has kept both outside with their bed in the garage. He has been good as far as feeding them and making sure they have a good bed. And he does pet them some.

With things changing, I don't want to wait till I have little to no time to find a good home for them. If you could please share them with folks you know who would give them a good home, I'd be so grateful. I wish I could have them with me, but I know I can't have them where I live. Right now, they are fine - but I don't know how long that will be. No matter what, I won't let them go to the pound, though.

Thanks so much for sharing Bennie and Cutie. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks, again.”

Happy Holidays from Paws & Claws Feline Rescue

It will be a Merry Christmas for Paws & Claws and our cats and kittens! We can’t thank enough all our supporters who donated to help us pay our spay/neuter bills.

Thanks to you we’ll be able to start the new year without worrying about being so deeply in debt! We still need donations to continue to feed and vet over eighty cats and kittens currently in our program – it is very expensive to save these little lives. Your donation is tax deductible and unlike large charities, every penny goes to the cats and kittens.

Paws & Claws has adopted almost nine hundred cats and kittens so far - next year it will be over a thousand lives saved! Please tell all your friends and family to give a cat or kitten a home for Christmas so we can meet our goal for this year.

Thanks also to our many volunteers – we couldn’t run our program without you! Please consider volunteering your time to foster, clean cages, or help on adoption Saturdays. It is a very worthy cause and we definitely need volunteers if Paws & Claws Feline Rescue is going to continue it’s good work. Please send us an e-mail if you can help.

We now have three locations: Petco in Mooresville, PetSmart in Statesville, and we also have our very own adoption (and discount pet supplies) location at 120 W. Broad St. in the newly landscaped downtown Statesville. Come visit us and send adopters!

Thank you to everyone who has helped this year and best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and good health in the New Year!

Please visit us on Facebook and our website, and post pictures of the cats and kittens you’ve adopted from us or to send donations by PayPal, or mail to:
